My gut reply. Study more. If you are going to re-enter the labour pool then it is better to do it at a higher level.

Hi Michelle Interesting question. Not sure where you would source an answer for that. I did a quick search but couldnt find an opinion one way or another. Have you consulted a financial advisor?

Yow-ouch. That is a very deep hole that will take some effort to get out of. Here are some possible strategies you could use. 1/ Move the debt from the credit cards where you pay ruinous interest rates to some sort of combined loan where the intere…

Exactly! That is why you would fix a sizable portion of your loan. Lets say you locked in 75% of your loan into a fixed rate. If interest rates go up then the portion locked in at the lower rate (75%) is unaffected. The portion that remained on the…

I think I would be inclined to go for it and fix the majority of your loan. I do not think interest rates will go lower. I would consider fixing 60 - 75% of the loan. The prob with fixing your loan is that you cannot pay it off any quicker therefore…

Hi Nikki I have no background as a lawyer, solicitor or whatever but I believe that if you have a surviving spouse the credit card company can pursue them. Failing this the CCC can pursue your estate. No idea if this includes your superannuation etc…

Good strategy - panic only causes you to make irrational decisions, like selling at the bottom. Hanging on to your job is essential too - I think a lot of people were taking their jobs for granted, when we're lucky to have one.

Hello Jaquesk. Great to read your sensible and informed contributions. Was thinking maybe we should take the share investiing to another thread rather than leave it in the property vs share thread

Ah, but there are so many voices these days jacquesk! It seems like there is so much conflicting information out there that it's hard to make sense of it all.

That said, more bad news seems to come out of the US each week, and I can't help but think that the "little brother" role that Australia seems to play to the US will also happen with shares and property... I hope not, but we do tend to follow them blindly, no matter the circumstances (war, economics, stockmarket)

Hi Jacquesk.

Thanks for the comment re borrowing to invest. Smart move using the equity in your home rather than a ML. Good luck with your investments!

Now that it's working, I can add you as a "friend". Tried it a while back, but had no luck...

BTW, how are things going? All sorts of doom and gloom seems to be surrounding us at the moment...I just read the article that Matthew Reader put up... should we buy all this, or is it just journos trying to sell papers?
