Capital investment products

Hi FolksI am in a capital protected investment scheme and it is, to be charitable, useless in terms of profit. Does anyone on the forum know of a efficient way to get out of the scheme? I could just get a loan and pay it out but I have heard there are specialised products out there that are designed for this purpose. See More

Hi Skippi_Oz Happy to help. Some companies offer dividend reinvestment for their shares, ie you use your profit to purchase more shares rather than getting the $$. This is a good way to increase the size of your holding over time. It has its good…

Have a look at Members Equity's managed funds. You can buy into them for a very small amount of money.

I have read a couple of these and I agree that they are outdated by the time they are published. I was thinking more along the lines of a generalist book about what shares are etc. This is an area where preparation and education are very important.

Hi Vonny I did this and it was a success (I made a profit rather than a loss). As regards what stocks to buy there are companies out there like Fat Profits, Wise Owl etc who offer share advice for a price (All care but no responsibility).…

My gut reply. Study more. If you are going to re-enter the labour pool then it is better to do it at a higher level.

Hi Michelle Interesting question. Not sure where you would source an answer for that. I did a quick search but couldnt find an opinion one way or another. Have you consulted a financial advisor?

Good strategy - panic only causes you to make irrational decisions, like selling at the bottom. Hanging on to your job is essential too - I think a lot of people were taking their jobs for granted, when we're lucky to have one.

Hello Jaquesk. Great to read your sensible and informed contributions. Was thinking maybe we should take the share investiing to another thread rather than leave it in the property vs share thread

Hey jacquesk, just noticed a small typo in the title of the forum you started

Property verses other forms of investment

Not sure if you can amend this...

Ah, but there are so many voices these days jacquesk! It seems like there is so much conflicting information out there that it's hard to make sense of it all.

That said, more bad news seems to come out of the US each week, and I can't help but think that the "little brother" role that Australia seems to play to the US will also happen with shares and property... I hope not, but we do tend to follow them blindly, no matter the circumstances (war, economics, stockmarket)

Hi Jacquesk.

Thanks for the comment re borrowing to invest. Smart move using the equity in your home rather than a ML. Good luck with your investments!

Now that it's working, I can add you as a "friend". Tried it a while back, but had no luck...

BTW, how are things going? All sorts of doom and gloom seems to be surrounding us at the moment...I just read the article that Matthew Reader put up... should we buy all this, or is it just journos trying to sell papers?
