Tax time for Spoiltgirl...and ageing parents - any advice?

I'm sure this should feel better than it does - but I got my tax return yesterday. My usual M.O. at this time is to take my partner somewhere expensive for dinner and blow the rest on something amazing to wear with new shoes, handbag and make up to match (like I don't already have too many clothes shoes and handbags to know what to do with and more makeup than a drag queen).

But I took a deep breath, screwed up my face tight and put all but $100 on my credit card debt. I figured if I… Continue

A cautionary tale for parents of princesses

I will preface this with two disclaimers – One: I adore my parents and they have given me so many tangible and intangible things in life that I could not possibly be the happy, successful (well, apart from in the money management department!) person that I am today without them. Two: I believe once you’re a great big grown up, unless there is terrible trauma or abuse in your childhood, you can’t go around blaming it for who you are.

But gee they were rubbish at teaching me anything… Continue

Spoiltgirl does a budget today

Yes, going back to basics.

Embarassing to say but at the age of 35 I have never once sat down and put together a budget. Even more embarassing, with a combined household income of $175,000 which I know would be a dream for many people, our savings are pitiful. Please don't flame me for that one I know I should be shot.

So after 2 lots of mortgage payments (ever increasing, thanks to a bank that doesn't even wait for the Reserve Bank before it hits me up for .5% extra every… Continue

Some things I did to save money today..

Well I didn't go out at lunchtime and buy food (helped by the fact the boss put on a working lunch) and stopped myself buying another pair of shoes (I think last count was 60 pairs in my spare room) on eBay. Need to remember just because it's cheap it's not a bargain, and if you don't need it, it's just clutter that will weigh you down.

Having a "no shop" night tonight and eating whatever's in the cupboard for a change instead of buying more ingredients I probably won't finish. Let's hope… Continue

Welcome Spoiltgirl - by the sounds of things you're going to have to be unspoiltgirl for the next few months to get on track for that hol! 2 min noodles is probably the way to go. I like your blog - great idea, I will chuck my comments on that. LS

Wow thanks guys - thought i was just sending my guilt off into the internet void (first time I have ever actually written it down - deep in denial until then). Yes I have some nice clothes, mostly I've put on too much weight worrying to wear them. US and Canada is the trip with BF - and he doesn't know how in debt I am so I've got to save and pay off the card at once. Am learning to like 2 minute noodles...

Thanks for your support!

"Ben, let's not lose the loop. How financiers view bankruptcy is not relevant to the discussion of an individual's capacity to pay something. Bankruptcy is being utilised as a means of evading debt obligations. "

"I agree with the setiment however in reality there's nothing to encourage an individual to make a payment with a Debt Agreement! While technically it's different most financial companies regard it as the same as bankruptcy."
