Climate change - consumers to shoulder the financial burden

The government’s climate change adviser, Ross Garnaut released his long-awaited report on Friday.

The way I read it is that the enormous cost of mitigating climate change will be worn by the average householder.

I’m interested in your thoughts on this.

I’m also keen to read your comments on the fact that the sale of gas guzzling 4-wheel drive SUVs is up - despite the cost of fuel and the adverse affect of fossil fuel on the environment.

What does this say? Don’t the rich care about the future of our planet?

We’re obviously all going to be affected by this. How much are you willing to sacrifice in order to arrest the impact of climate change?

Do you pay more for green energy? I made the decision to do so and feel good about it.

I’m more than willing to do my bit and pay more for goods and services if this means preserving the health of the planet for future generations to come. What I’m unclear about is what other countries are doing about carbon emissions. I was reading that over the past 25 years Australia’s carbon dioxide emissions have been twice the world average rate. So I fully support us taking a step. I’m just curious to know if we’re the lone voice.

I’d also like to know if as individuals we can measure our carbon footprints.
